Privacy Policy for DubNow

DubNow ("we", "our") is a Chrome extension that provides real-time AI dubbing and bilingual subtitles for videos playing in your browser tab. This policy explains what data the extension collects and how it is used.

1. Data we collect

a) Account information (only if you sign in). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google. We use this to manage your account and your daily dubbing quota. This information is stored on our backend (Supabase).

b) Video audio for dubbing. When you click "Start Live Dubbing", the extension captures the audio of your current tab and streams it in real time over encrypted TLS to Google's Gemini Live API, which performs the translation and dubbing. The audio is processed ephemerally — it is never recorded, logged, or stored on our servers.

c) Usage telemetry. To keep the service reliable, the extension sends session data to our servers: a random session ID, an anonymized hardware identifier, the domain name (hostname only — never full page URLs or page titles) of the dubbed video, the source and target languages, the extension version, and session duration. This contains no personal information.

d) Stored on your device only. Your settings (target language, voice style, subtitle preferences) and your own Gemini API key (if you use Bring-Your-Own-Key) are saved in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local). They are never transmitted to us or to any third party.

e) Exported transcripts. If you choose to export a session transcript (SRT or TXT), the file is downloaded directly to your device. We do not receive a copy.

2. How we use your data

We use the data above solely to provide DubNow's single purpose — real-time AI dubbing and bilingual subtitles for videos in your browser tab — including sign-in, quota management, and service reliability. We do not use your data for any unrelated purpose.

3. Third-party services

Google Gemini API (generativelanguage.googleapis.com) — receives tab audio in real time to perform dubbing. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
Google OAuth (googleapis.com) — provides your name, email, and photo when you sign in. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
Supabase (*.supabase.co) — our backend database, storing your account and quota data.
DubNow servers (api.dubnow.io) — quota management and telemetry.
AssanPay — secure, PCI-compliant payment gateway for PRO subscriptions. Payment details are entered directly on AssanPay and never touch DubNow servers.

4. What we never do

We never sell your personal data.
We never share your data with third parties except the service providers listed above, and only as needed to operate the extension.
We never use your data for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness, or lending decisions.

5. Data retention

Account information is kept while your account is active. Telemetry session records contain no personal identifiers beyond an anonymized hardware ID. Dubbing audio is never retained at all. You may request deletion of your account data at any time via the contact below.

6. Your choices

Use the extension without signing in (with your own Gemini API key) to avoid creating an account record.
Clear locally stored data at any time via your browser's extension storage settings.
Contact us to request access to or deletion of your account data.

7. Children's privacy

DubNow is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the extension evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the "Effective date" above.
